I know that it is not easy for us to teach the pupils to read, especially to the young ones and those with blank slate about reading. I always start from basic. Having them to learn and know about alphabet is necessary since it will provide them with the awareness on how letters and words are pronounced correctly.
Usually, I will use songs as to help the pupils to memorise the alphabet and the letter sounds. It is a routine for us to sing the alphabet and the letter sounds song before we start any lessons. Incorporating movements and actions while singing the song is a good help as well. The students will use the movements and actions as associations that could assist them in registering the alphabet and the letter sounds in their mind.
Below are the alphabet charts with example of word for each letter sound that could be used in your classroom. I made the charts in several colours so that you can choose the one appealing to you and your students. Qr code is included in the chart for easier access to the alphabet and letter sounds song.
Apart from the charts, you can also download some resources related to alphabet and letter sounds that I’ve made and shared ( long time ago) as consolidation activities for the students. I’ll include all the related files in this post as well.
Hope you find them useful and beneficial to your students.
