In 2019, close to 50% of our operating costs were covered by our users’ generous contribution, with the rest by our own pocket money. At the end of 2019, we had decided that our Blogspot hosting is no longer suitable to serve our growing users, and so we decided to migrate Teacherfiera.com to a new server hosted in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. This server is significantly more capable of helping us to produce and host much more sophisticated online (and offline) materials, as we use self-hosted WordPress Content Management System (CMS) that allows for the use of amazing plug-ins such as H5P and many more, leading to the production of interactive materials that is more fun and engaging. The nature of self-hosted WordPress allows for custom theme and layout, making navigating through the website much easier and streamlined.

But of course, the new and high spec server costs quite a lot, not to mention other costs such as plug-ins purchase, premium fonts, ISP’s and utilities, as well as maintaining necessary hardware and software. At first, we were considering putting advertisements to get fundings to pay for the expensive costs mentioned, but we thought that Teacherfiera.com is a place to share knowledge and having fun while learning, not a place for advertising. The heart and soul of Teacherfiera.com is the community of enthusiastic teachers, parents, and students, coming together and benefits from the freely shared teaching and learning materials.

How many users do we have?

Between November 2017 to December 2019, we had served more than 390,000 direct, non-unique users, with an estimated 4,000,000 indirect users; according to our survey. The majority of our direct users are English Teachers and parents who are interested in English Language Teaching, while our indirect users are the students and children of direct users. 

Our users are not only from government-sponsored schools but from all walks of life including but not limited to, non-profit organizations such as orphanages and refugee centers, as well as special needs students and indigenous peoples of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak. They prefer Teacherfiera.com as all the materials are provided free of charge. This helps them to reduce their running cost while maintaining the educational quality served.
